Into The Battlefield

Many times in my life, I know the enemy has played a role in helping me choose bad decisions. But its funny, out of all those bad decisions, God was silently working in the background-preparing a safety net of grace.

Sometimes I question how the cards were played...like when my son was born 11 weeks premature; or when my daughter was diagnosed with a terminal disorder. I wonder- was I being tested or punished by God? or was this the enemy seeing how far he can push me? Was he testing me to see if I would fail? I haven't spent too much time considering these things, because either way, I don't want the devil to win in any circumstance of my life...and now, he knows.

Romans 8:28 states "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose".

I wonder what daily living on earth looks like from Heaven. To look down and see angels on our side...helping us to defeat those fears, lies, and discouraging words. Does it look like a war zone, with the true enemy being defeated in every way he tries to tempt? Are there are bunch of people fighting the war on their own, not asking for help from above? Are there some people that are completely unaware that a war wages on against us, beloved children of God?

I know that angels are here helping us defeat the enemy when we ask for His presence. I also believe there is a disconnect for many people on earth. Can I be honest? Until November, 2014, I was completely unaware of spiritual warfare. Its something I still don't fully understand. But I can tell you, when I have been able to identify where the enemy is trying to defeat me, I immediately call on the Holy Spirit to come...and He does. He shows up to help break that chain. Every. Time. And He will come to fight for you, too...if you trust Him enough to call on Him in your time of need.

John Bevere brings this to a different light in his book, Drawing Near. He states, "Many have settled for the intellectual knowledge of belonging, without ever pursuing the reality of interaction with Him in the moment. So deeply embedded is the concept of salvation that few go any further. They've said their prayers and will one day die and go to be with Him. Yet, the reality of Christ is missed, and the powerful revelation of God's desire to walk with us is lost. It is not a one time or far away experience, but His very real desire for abiding communion." -p53-54.

The bible displays moments throughout history where God's presence has created nations with barren women (the story of Abraham and Sarah), rose up nations with imperfection (Moses), conquered nations with undue strength (Joshua and Gideon). God's presence was also with David as he constantly pursued God even in the midst of the enemy's persistence.

And Paul. Paul states in Romans 7:13-25, "...For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it...So I discover this principle: When I want to do what is good, evil is with me. For in my inner self I joyfully agree with God's law. But I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin the parts of my body...Who will rescue me from this dying body? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" Even Paul, who wrote a great portion of the New Testament, realized there is a war taking place between what is evil and what is good.

So, if God's presence shows up consistently throughout the Bible, what makes us think He won't show up when we ask Him? Try it. Go ahead. Seek Him and Ask Him. He will show up and your life will change forever.

A friend of mine posted this piece on Facebook to help identify where the enemy is working. May the help you identify his work in your life:
