Giving Thanks

"Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude."

- Colossians 2:6-7

Today, as I sit here and reflect on the last 18 months with Tessa, I can't help but be grateful.

She has shown us what true strength is. She has shown us how God works through weakness to show us that strength. Most of all, she has helped to build our house on a rock...submitting to the Lord our thankfulness every day. She has changed our lives.

Even though I may not be able to catch you up on all that has happened in the past 18 months, we can start with today. Tessa turned 18 months on Saturday. Her initial diagnosis told us she was only going to give us 3-6 months, a year at best. But, she has given us 18 months. Giving thanks in all circumstances has been the most difficult thing to learn through this all. Some days Tessa leaves us guessing...is she going to be here tomorrow? Other days we have no doubts at all. Today, I think we are guessing.

Despite the emotional roller coaster of uncertainty, we continue to persevere as a family. Our promise to Tessa and God in September 2014 has remained and we have provided Tessa with many "human" experiences and she knows love. She is able to share her life with others and has impacted many lives- more than I know or ever will know.

She is an active little bugger and has gone snowmobiling, snowshoeing, swimming, and sledding. She has made snow angels with her brother.

We are able to give thanks and show our gratitude for the time with Tessa because we don't let ourselves get caught in the trap of self-pity. Sure, the enemy has tried to get in our heads and make us feel her life is unworthy. But to be honest, she has taken us on a journey to overcome. She has a purpose here on earth and she will persevere.

So, today, we are very thankful. We remain grateful to our Lord and look to Him for everlasting strength in our weakness. Enjoy your day, giving thanks in everything!
